Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Human Resources Director, the Payroll Master plays a key role in the company's operational performance. You work in collaboration with another Payroll Master on the entire payroll cycle for the organization, while acting as the guardian of legal compliance and internal processes. The company operates in a heavily unionized context, governed by two distinct collective agreements, in addition to the white-collar employee group. Therefore, solid and recent experience in such an environment is essential for this role. Combining accounting rigor and technological vision, you drive the optimization of our human resources information system (HRIS) and ensure rigorous management of employee benefits.

Your main responsibilities Leadership and operations management

  • Ensure rigorous processing and strict compliance with deadlines.
  • Ensure the integrity of the entire payroll cycle (salaries, bonuses, deductions) and provide second-level technical support to managers and employees.
  • Structure the department and establish documentation for all payroll processes in a context where no procedures are documented. Autonomy and initiative will therefore be essential to the success of this mandate.

Compliance, governance, and year-end

  • Ensure compliance of practices with current laws, collective agreements, and internal policies.
  • Drive year-end processes, produce government filings, and coordinate payroll audits by providing the required analyses and supporting documents.

Financial management and benefits

  • Take charge of employee benefits: ensure the management, processing, and reconciliation of group insurance and pension plans while optimizing liaison with external suppliers and third parties.
  • Administer the employee stock purchase plan (registrations, deductions, follow-up with the supplier).

Optimization and HRIS component

  • Act as the HRIS super-user by ensuring rigorous updating of organizational data.
  • Drive continuous improvement by actively participating in the optimization of payroll systems and the implementation of new automation procedures.

The sought-after profile
Education: College Diploma (DEC) or Bachelor's degree in human resources management, accounting, administration, or a related field.
Professional Certification (Major asset): Payroll Manager (PM) or Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation awarded by the National Payroll Institute.
Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in payroll management in unionized and non-unionized environments, including team lead experience and management of a complete payroll accounting cycle (year-end, audits, accounting entries).
Technical Expertise: Advanced mastery of large-scale payroll systems (e.g., ADP, SAP, Dayforce) and excellent command of Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas).
Key Skills: Rigor, great organizational sense, absolute discretion, and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

What we offer:
Complete range of employee benefits (group insurance, pension plan)
Hybrid work formula: On-site / Telecommuting - to be specified
Development opportunities and continuous training
A collaborative and dynamic work environment

This job requires an awareness of potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the company's success, reputation, and sustainable growth.
