Responsibilities

Structural Design and Definition

  • Develop and review structural concepts, 3D models, assemblies, installation drawings, and detail drawings for assigned areas of the aircraft.
  • Define metallic and composite parts, joints, interfaces, fastening concepts, tolerances, and provisions according to applicable design requirements.
  • Apply good design practices regarding load paths, manufacturability, assembly, inspection, maintainability, weight, and cost.

Technical Integration and Collaboration

  • Coordinate structural definition with loads and stress, materials and processes, systems installation, aerodynamics, interiors, manufacturing, quality, and other concerned disciplines.
  • Resolve geometric and physical interface conflicts and support technical trade-off studies.
  • Participate in design reviews and clearly communicate design intent, assumptions, constraints, and open points.

Maturity, Compliance, and Support

  • Support justification and certification activities by providing complete and traceable design definition as well as technical justification.
  • Support production, supplier, and in-service investigations, including root cause analysis and design corrective measures.
  • Manage design changes and maintain product configuration and definition data in the applicable PLM environment.

Level-Specific Contribution

  • Lead assigned work packages and coordinate interfaces, priorities, and deliverables among stakeholders.
  • Develop and justify solutions to complex design and integration issues and formulate recommendations to project management.
  • Review peers' work, share lessons learned, and mentor junior engineers in the discipline.

Profile

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering, or another relevant discipline depending on the position. A technologist diploma may be considered based on relevant experience.
  • Typically at least 5 years of relevant experience.

Technical Knowledge

  • Aircraft structural configuration and detailed design
  • Metallic and composite design principles, joints, fasteners, tolerancing, and GD&T
  • Technical drawings, 3D definition, manufacturability, assembly, and inspection
  • Materials, processes, aeronautical design standards, certification principles, and configuration management

Tools and Methods

  • CATIA V5, ENOVIA, and the MS Office suite; knowledge of NX and Teamcenter is an asset.
  • Knowledge of PLM processes, product definition, engineering change, and configuration management corresponding to the level.

Leadership and Behavioral Competencies

  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication.
  • Collaborative approach with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Good judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills, organizational sense, and accountability.
  • Ability to coordinate priorities and provide constructive technical guidance.

Languages

  • Mastery of English (mandatory).
  • French is an asset.
